If you’ve ever taken students to camp, you know the unexpected comes with the territory. But what happens when everything goes wrong? This story will make you laugh, cringe, and remind you that every youth ministry leader has a camp story that didn’t go as planned.

What’s your wildest youth camp story?

Drop it in the comments below. We’d love to hear it.

In 2020 (during the Covid pandemic)… we decided to go to camp anyway and practice “social distancing” at the camp. Most other groups had cancelled, so social distancing didn’t seem to be an issue. It’s a place that youth groups rent, but do their own retreats/camps. After filling out all kinds of questionnaires, waivers, Covid tests, etc., we were cleared to go! Camp was going great, but towards the end of the week, a couple camp staffers, some of my teens and myself included, started not feeling well. Uh oh! We went home and spread Covid ALL OVER THE CHURCH! 😱 In the end, nearly all who attended camp got it and about a dozen or so church members got it, including a nearly 90 year old lady😱😱. Thank the Lord… everyone survived! In fact the 90 year old lady was quite the trooper! The church was shut down for a couple weeks 😏 (that was blamed on me, basically, b/c I took the kids to camp and brought it back). Similar to your story, it is a great memory now! In fact, it’s affectionately known as “Corona Camp 2020!” 😂
