Here’s a fun Children’s Ministry game: Watermelon Mayhem!

Big Idea: Teams compete in ridiculously fun and messy watermelon-themed challenges – a mix of relay, obstacle, and just-plain-chaos. It’s high-energy and unforgettable!

Play: Indoors (with tarps) or outdoors on grass or pavement.

Supplies:

  • 3-4 small watermelons (real or plastic for safe rolling, the amount of watermelons varies depending on group size)
  • Whipped cream or shaving cream
  • Swim goggles or sunglasses (optional)
  • Hula hoops
  • An obstacle course set up with random objects
  • Empty water bottles filled with a little water for stability (to use as bowling pins)

Game Stations (can rotate or do relay-style):

1. Watermelon Roll Obstacle
Roll a watermelon through an obstacle course, jump through a hula hoop, spin around 3 times, and tag the next player.

2. Whipped Cream Face Catch
Toss mini marshmallows to a teammate whose face is covered in whipped cream. Catch as many as possible in 2 minutes. (Use swim goggles or sunglasses for protection). It’s not watermelon related, but it’s so fun!

3. Watermelon Bowling
Use a small watermelon as a bowling ball to knock down “pins” made of empty water bottles filled with a little water for stability.

Points & Winning: Each team earns points at each station. You can also give out goofy awards like Messiest Face or Most Watermelon Mayhem.

Wrap-Up:

Read Psalm 34:8: “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”

Say: Like watermelons are juicy, sweet, and yummy, Psalm 34:8 reminds us to “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” When we trust God and rely on him, life is sweet – just like watermelons! Remember that God’s goodness is something you can always count on and enjoy.
