BIBLE APP FOR PRETEENS

I just found out about the daily Bible experience for preteens from my friend, Mike Sheley.

Here’s a brief description from the creators:

The experience is specifically geared towards preteens. And each day it offers engaging, practical insight into how they can apply God’s Word. And as they’re enjoying fresh, relevant content each day, this new experience will help them discover their own daily rhythm of seeking God.

I think it’s a great way to have preteens dive into the Bible in their everyday lives!

I asked Mike to for some tips to get preteens engaged with the app. Here’s what he said:

Mike: We’ve had two forms of success with getting preteens to use the Bible app on their own. One is to make sure parents encourage them to use it and even model usage of it themselves. Two is to get their small group to do a reading plan together.

If you don’t have formal small groups, then simply break your large group up into small groups during the service. Make it a point to have leaders encourage preteens to go on the app during the week, and then follow up with them during small group time.

Download the YouVersion Bible App.

If you already have the app, then make sure you have the latest version. The feature is called the Kids Bible Experience, and I believe it was released in July 2020.

The feature is not automatic. You have to enable it. I found the process a bit complicated, so I made this quick video walking you through each step. I also show you the Experience in action.

If you don’t want to watch the video, then here are the steps:

Open the app, click on more at the bottom right corner, and go into the settings. Turn on the Kids Bible Experience. Then, a new experience will show up on the home screen each day. That’s where all the action happens.
