YOUTH GROUP GAME ON ANGELS

Here’s a fun youth group game centered around what the Bible teaches about Angels.

SUPPLIES

  • Flour (lots of it)
  • Large dark colored tarps

Place 2 dark-colored tarps on the floor and cover them with flour as the youth watch.

SAY:

How many of you have ever made snow angels?

Today, we are making ‘snow’ angels, but not with snow… we’re making them with flour.

I’m going to divide you into 2 equal-sized teams.

This is going to be a guessing game.

Choose a person from your team to be the first ‘angel’.

The angel from each team will come to me to receive instructions.

I will whisper an action an angel might do and without saying any words you will: Lay down on your team’s tarp, make a snow angel that is doing the action I whispered to you.

For example, if I say ‘walking’, then you will act that out as a snow angel.

First team to guess correctly gets a point.

Then, the next 2 angels will take their turn.

Cleaner option: Use a small pan, cover it with flower and have youth make snow angels using their fingers and the team guess the action.

Examples of angel actions:

Jumping

Flying

Singing

Dancing

Sleeping. (Do angels sleep?)

And tougher options:

Proclaiming

Rejoicing

Rescuing

TEACH

After the game, say: That game demonstrated that things are often not as they seem.

When it comes to the topic of Angels, things are often not as they seem.

Have students read the following passages and discuss the questions in small groups:

Hebrews 13:1-3

Hebrews 2:7

Luke 1:26-56

Matthew 1:20-25

Matthew 28:1-7

Luke 2:8-15

Revelation 14:6

DISCUSS:

1. Name some qualities that angels have in common in these scriptures.

2. How would you describe angels after reading these experiences?

3. Have you ever heard any stories about angels? If so, what?

4. What do you think is God’s purpose for angels?

5. What would you do if an angel came to you with a message?

SAY:

Imagine coming face to face with an angel.

What would you do? What would you say?

And here’s the next thing you notice about angels: they have a message from God.

Think about the messages the angels in the scriptures brought – what were they?

Now, raise your hand if you’ve ever seen an angel.

But, just because we haven’t seen them doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

Ask yourself this question: what would you do if an angel came to you and told you to do something crazy for God.

Would you be scared? Believe it?

Go to the doctor to get your head examined?

I don’t think we should leave here today in search of  angels at every street corner.

But, what I think angels tell us more than anything is that God is at work around us whether we notice it or not.

And that we should keep our eyes, ears and hearts open because God seems to like to surprise us and to show up in the places and in the ways we least expect, right?

End lesson.

    Hi Ministrytoyouth team,

Thanks for all these free games and lessons. They really are a blessing.

I just want to point something out to you guys regarding your free game and lesson regarding angels. On the scripture verse part you have Hebrews 13:1-3, listed 3 times. Just curious if you had other verses in mind?

Either way the lesson is pretty cool.

    Thanks again, blessings,
    Eric
