Here’s a fun Back to School Skittles Game for Children’s Ministry or Children’s Church that’s low-prep, high-fun, and helps kids open up as they head into a new school year!

A SKITTLES ICEBREAKER GAME FOR KIDS (1ST–5TH GRADE)

Supplies:

  • A big bowl of Skittles
  • Small cups or baggies for each child (5–10 Skittles per kid, mixed colors)
  • Optional: A whiteboard to write the color prompts

How to Play:

  1. Give each child a small handful of Skittles.
  2. Tell them not to eat them yet! (This will be the hardest part.)
  3. Explain that each color of Skittle matches a back to school question.
  4. One by one, kids pick a Skittle and answer the question that matches the color. Then they eat it!
  5. Keep going until everyone’s Skittles are gone (or time is up).

Color Prompts:

  • Red: What’s something you’re excited about this school year?
  • Orange: What’s something that makes you nervous about school?
  • Yellow: Share your favorite subject or class.
  • Green: Name a friend you want to see or make this year.
  • Purple: If you could take anything to school (real or silly), what would it be?

Optional TwistPair kids up and have them play in partners. Or let them trade Skittles if they don’t want to answer a certain color prompt.

(End Game.)
