YOUTH MINISTRY SUMMER OLYMPIC GAME

Here is a fun summer olympic game for your youth ministry.
With the summer olympics soon upon us, why not bring the fun to your youth group!?!?
GAME: PENTATHLON
Students will compete in a Pentathlon. In the real olympic sport, athletes compete these five events: fencing, freestyle swimming, show jumping, pistol shooting, and cross country running.
Of course, our version is much different.
Supplies:
- Rolls of toilet paper (one per team)
- Drinking straws (one per team)
- Q-tips (10 per team)
- Highlighter markers (seven)
- Big, round, latex balloons (one per team)
- Paper cups (10 per team)
INSTRUCTIONS
Divide the group into teams of at least five members. One member from each team will complete in each of the following activities. Assign points for first, second, and third place for each event, and then declare an overall winner at the end.
1. Toilet Paper Shot Put
Each competitor is given a full roll of toilet paper, which they must throw from behind the start line. The goal is not to see who can throw the farthest, but to see who can get the longest train of toilet paper coming off of their roll when it lands. The player with the longest train coming off of the roll wins. You may allow multiple throws if you like, taking the best throw from each player.
2. Q-tip Archery
Stand up seven highlighter markers on a tabletop, in a row about an inch between them. Each player is given a straw and ten Q-tips. Using their straws like peashooters, players try to knock down as many markers as they can with the Q-tips. The winner is the player who knocks down the most markers. In the event of a tie, place one marker in the middle of the table and place the tiebreaker competitors at opposite ends of the table. The two players shoot their Q-tips at the marker simultaneously until one of them knocks it over.
3. Balloon Bowling
Set up ten paper cups upside down on a tabletop. Arrange them like bowling pins. Players stand on the other side of the table. Taking turns, each player blows up their balloon and then releases the air from the balloon to try to knock over the cups. The player who knocks over the most cups (you can do several rounds if you like) wins.
4. Rubber Chicken Hammer Throw
On each player’s turn, they take the rubber chicken and throw it as far as they can using the Hammer Throw form. The Hammer Throw is when a player spins around creating the momentum to throw an object:

Allow multiple throws, if you like. The player who throws the chicken the farthest wins.
5. Oreo Cookie Discus Throw
Each player is given an Oreo cookie. They need to throw it backhand, like a frisbee, to see who can throw the farthest. The cookie must remain intact upon landing, however, so it’s not just a matter of brute strength. Allow multiple throws if you like.
We hope your students enjoy the games!
